Cambridgeshire Air Source Heat Pumps Installs and Government Grants

An Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) is an energy-efficient heating system that extracts heat from the outside air—even in cold weather—and uses it to warm your home and heat your water. ASHPs are a modern, renewable technology that can help reduce energy bills and lower carbon emissions, contributing to a greener, more sustainable home.

If you're considering upgrading to an air source heat pump, you may be eligible for government grants designed to support the installation of renewable heating systems. One grant is available per property, offering £7,500 towards the cost of installing an ASHP. This initiative encourages homeowners and businesses to replace fossil fuel heating systems—such as oil, gas, electric, or LPG boilers—with low-carbon alternatives.

To qualify, you must:

• Own the property where the heat pump will be installed—this includes second homes, rental properties, and business premises.
• Must currently use fossil fuel heating (e.g. gas, oil, LPG, or direct electric).
• Have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) issued within the past 10 years.
• Ensure installation is completed by an MCS-certified installer within 120 days of your grant application.

It’s important to note that this grant does not cover hybrid systems (such as a gas boiler combined with a heat pump) or new builds still under construction. However, if you move into a newly built property with a fossil fuel boiler already installed, you may still qualify.
